Studio 8 Live, a showcase of Commissions and Exhibitions artist andrew charles through his Live Studio Cam.

The artworks displayed herein are of recent exhibition, commissions and personal works in a variety of styles and genres from which you can commission your own works.

From a family of artists his calling came later in life than his forefathers and has been a professional artist since 2000.  His life prior to this took him around the Globe in search of self, between 1973 and 2000 he has produced many thousands of sketches, images, photographs and paintings many of which still hang and have been enjoyed in the places and with the people he has met on his journeys including India, New York, Former Yugoslavia, Italy and the Canary Isles.

Now 53 years old, the life of the nomadic artist in ignorance ends and he IS firmly settled within the Lakes and Mountains of Northern England close to the Scottish Borders, he has indeed found himself and continues to practice that which has brought him the most peace throughout his life; through his work he now seeks to revisit the many memories and experiences that have dominated his past 3 decades.

While his paintworks are mostly in acrylic there are on-going oil works within his studio, it is with acrylics however that have occupied the past 5 years experimentation while seeking both the artist within and his own personal style, now with a tendency toward layering and balance, of colour and light, his paint work has been borne of many influences, Rothko, Pollock, Mondrian and Scully taking the lead alongside many others.

Charles also now finds a sculptor gnawing within, his current influences include Henry Moore,  Miroslav Balka, Barbara Hepworth and Louise Bourgeoise et al. each  gently adding toward his own growing intent.

Currently, and in addition to paint and small sculptural explorations, he is working on a film project with a small team in the South of England.  A former serviceman himself the project centres  upon the lives and emotions of the families and friends who visit resting relatives who lie within the grounds of the UK’s newest and grandest of military cemetery, the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas in Staffordshire in the centre of England.
